Year 1 visit to Butser Ancient Farm

On Thursday 15th October Year 1 had the privilege of being able to step back in time as we visited Butser Ancient Farm in Hampshire.

The journey was just over an hour but felt much shorter as the boys’ behaviour on the coach was impeccable. They were so excited and eager to see what the day would bring.

Once we arrived we were shown into the Celtic round house where we were seated around a real fire. One of the many fantastic Butser Farm staff members was able to talk about the features of the round house. We were so proud of the boys as they were able to answer many of her questions about the differences between modern and ancient homes. Following this we spent an action packed day carrying out a range of Iron Age building tasks such as clunching and wattling.

We also had a chance to be archaeologists and to excavate some treasures from the ground and to make our own chalk carvings.

Many thanks to all the parent helpers who accompanied us and helped to make the trip a huge success – we will definitely be revisiting next year!
