The Four Magic Gifts

On Wednesday 9th September, the boys and staff in Year 2 were very lucky to be treated to a whole day of inspirational storytelling with storyteller, Kevin Graal.

The storyteller captivated the boys with his rainbow bells, drums and an interactive performance of The Four Magic Gifts, a folktale collected in Germany by the Brothers Grimm.  The boys developed their story telling skills and use of story language through the game of Story Ping-Pong.

They also used drawing to record the main events of the story. The boys then created their very own four magic gifts from ordinary objects like “a tube of toothpaste that when you brush your teeth it makes you turn invisible.” The boys patiently waited until the end of the day before they found out how the story ended!

The next day, back in class, the boys planned and wrote the most amazing stories all about the magic gifts they had previously invented.

Our grateful thanks go to the Friends of Squirrels who sponsored this magical experience.
