FoS Summer 2017
As the June heatwave kicked in, Friends of Squirrels prepared to bid farewell to the academic year, and all the boys leaving us for ventures new, with our Summer Fair.
This family fun day is always met with great excitement from the boys and this year especially we were thrilled to see so many boys, siblings, parents and grandparents enjoying all the thrills of our spectacular Squirrels’ Circus! What a lot there was to entertain us – a fancy dress parade, choir performance, sporting finals, circus skills workshops, fairground games and fun on the inflatables, especially watching Mr Morrison and the sports team battling it out to be the Last Man Standing!
Thanks to everyone who contributed in all your many ways: decorations, stalls, ideas, organising, coming along and simply getting stuck in. And thanks to our inimitable clown on the mic! We made an amazing £3,000 which can be channelled directly back into the boys’ learning, with 10% also benefitting our First Touch, our chosen charity of the year, based at St George’s neo-natal unit.
It has been a lively term for the boys and we have been delighted to be able to fund some standout experiences for them including a Seaside Workshop (complete with Victorian pantaloons and penny ices), a whole-school ‘Play with the Stars’ football workshop, Minibeasts Roadshow, Wild Learning outdoor adventure day on Wimbledon Common and the all-important Leavers’ party.
The success of Spring’s Hawaiian Nights Ball introduced some new members to us and we are always keen to welcome new faces. The boys race through three short years at WCPS and Friends of Squirrels can only continue to do what it does well with new people coming on board. If you have considered joining Friends of Squirrels, or would like to know more about what we do, please do make contact via the school office; we’d love to hear from you.
We wish you a wonderful summer ahead and look forward to ushering in the new academic term with our AGM and ever-popular (as well as hotly-contested) Quiz on Friday 29th September. Be sure to put the date in your diary and we’ll see you there!
