On the 23rd and 24th September, our Maths Workshops for the parents of Year 1 and 2 pupils took place in Orchard Hall. These sessions, led by Miss Studd, Mrs Cadle, Miss Hemmings and Mrs Logan, explained how we teach mathematics at WCPS and how the boy’s calculation methods progress.
Parents were given the opportunity to use the resources typically used in Maths lessons at school, such as hundred squares, number lines, place value cards and counting apparatus.
We discussed the vast vocabulary involved when interpreting mathematical problems and explained strategies for calculation. Parents had the chance to try out some examples for themselves on whiteboards and we played some of the games we use in class to learn our number facts.
If you were unable to attend the workshop and would like a copy of the handouts, please contact Mrs Greener. Please see the school calendar for the date our upcoming Maths Workshop for Reception Parents.
