Writing Workshop:

On Thursday 16th September, Year Two parents and carers joined Mrs Cadle and Miss Hemmings in Orchard Hall for the Year Two Writing Workshop. The aims of the workshop were to give parents and carers an overview of English in Year Two at WCPS, share vocabulary, outline what good story writing looks like and provide information on how to support their children at home.

Parents and carers gained an insight into a what an English lesson looks like at WCPS and how we teach the skill of writing. Mrs Cadle and Miss Hemmings set some tasks with parents identifying word types including verbs, adjectives, nouns and adverbs. Everyone was very enthusiastic and produced some accurate work!

The elements of creative writing were then unpicked before Mrs Cadle and Miss Hemmings talked the audience through some real examples of work, produced by boys here at WCPS. Everyone was transported to a jungle in one story where a boy had used a range of literary devices to wow the reader. Then the editing process was explored, as parents and carers were guided through how to support their child with up levelling their work.

It was great to see so many parents at the Workshop which we hope proved to be a useful and informative afternoon! Thank you all for coming.
