Friends of Squirrels celebrated the end of the school year with our annual Summer Fair and family fun-day.

In glorious June sunshine we welcomed new, past and present WCPS boys and their families to our sporting celebration of the World Cup. From hunting for treasure in Egyptian sands to our Japanese ninja knockdown, this year the fun and games came from all over the world.

All eyes were on Mr McInnes and Mr Wright as they battled it out for the hotly contested 2018 title of (Aussie-style) Last Man Standing, and we were particularly pleased with our new Friends of Squirrels’ funded loudspeakers for all our future fairs and sports days. The fair, with your support, raised an incredible £3,774!

Because of our lively fundraising, we are able to fund a multitude of wonderful experiences for the boys. This term, Reception enjoyed a visiting Minibeast Roadshow, FoS part-funded Year 1’s day of outdoor adventuring with the Thames Young Mariners and as special sporting send-off, Year 2 had their own World Cup tournament and Leavers’ party.

The last school term always seems to fly by, but we also packed in a Sculpture Workshop for Art Week, an Indian Shadow Puppet Workshop and Percussion Workshop for International Week, ice-creams for all competitors in the school sports day in May and the addition of an outdoor Mud Kitchen. Year 2 tested out the new Orchard Hall fixed microphones in their end-of-year production of ‘Porridge’.

We also donated 10% of our fundraising to St George’s neonatal charity, First Touch.

Next year we will be celebrating the school’s centenary with a ball in March. Do join us! A new school year is the perfect chance to find out more about what we do and how you can get involved. Please get in touch via the school office and come along to our next meeting – we are an ever-changing committee and look forward to welcoming you!
