On Monday 13th May, Year 2 were warmly welcomed to Kingston Synagogue for a tour and learning session to support their RE work about Judaism and Places of Worship.
The boys were met by some wonderful volunteers who told them all about different aspects of the Jewish faith and the features of the synagogue.
They were shown the Torah scrolls and told many interesting facts about their significance and use. Then they heard the Passover story, tried Matzah bread and even got to try on a kippah, a brimless cap worn by Jewish males.
At the end of the session, the Rabbi blew the shofar, which the boys learnt is an ancient musical horn typically made of a ram's horn. It made an amazing sound that was very loud! Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed their morning at Kingston Synagogue and we are very grateful for the hospitality and kindness of their volunteers.
