Year 1 Summer Term Overview

Today, we would hardly recognise our Year 1 learners we properly met for the first time in September 2020! They have grown in confidence, resilience, independence and height too! Despite a challenging year of year group bubbles, remote learning and cancelled trips and sporting fixtures, the boys have flourished inside and outside of the classroom, and they made some lovely friendships. We are so proud of the attitude they have shown this year and it has been a privilege to be their teachers.

Despite the restrictions, we have always made time for fun while working through a busy curriculum. The highlights of this term have been the International Week virtual workshops, Sports’ Day, the Euro Championships and Squirrels’ Got Talent. In the classroom we have explored a number of different texts and genres in English and in Maths we explored the topics of symmetry, measurement, fractions among many others. In Science, we have been learning about plants and the boys grew their own bean plant. In Topic, we have been learning about the Rainforest and we were so impressed with the rainforest animals that were sculptured during DT lessons.

A big well done to each and every boy in Year 1 and we know you are ready for the challenges and excitement of Year 2 ahead of you!
